Academy Mini-Model Commission

A kid-friendly 219 piece promotional set designed for the Academy Center of the Arts, representing their recently-restored Historic Theatre building. Nearly 22,000 pieces were ordered, sorted, and packaged into 100 kits, which are now available for purchase benefiting the Academy—a 501(c) charitable organization serving central Virginia through community access to arts, culture, and educational programming.

When the Academy approached me to propose a collaboration after seeing my large display model of their Historic Theatre building, I suggested the idea of a price-conscious and beginner-accessible mini model totaling less than 500 pieces. Designed for adults and children 12 years and older, the model utilizes many of the same techniques as the large display model, but in a streamlined and scaled-down format. This was done in the spirit of the Academy’s focus on arts education, with the goal of educating less experienced builders on more advanced building techniques in an easy-to-understand way.
